WAIS BASEBALL PROGRAM

Brendan Wise

January 2004 - A bitter sweet Nationals for Brendan this year. Sweet in the sense that he was selected in the AAA National Team to go to Palau at the end of January, but bitter as he had to pull out due to a knee injury which kept him from pitching in the GF at the U18 Nationals. In his first 2 outings Brendan had thrown 9 innings for an ERA of only 2.00. He was due to pitch against Victoria in the GF, but hurt his knee sliding into second base attempting to break up a double against Queensland. Brendan was a leader on the team and I'm sure he will bounce back at the Academy this year.

Wisey pitched 5 innings for 5 hits, 1 strike, 2 walks and only 1 earned run. A good start for the season for the 17 year old.

August 2003: Congratulations to Brendan on making the AAA National Team after another successful MLB/AAP Camp in Queensland. Brendan finished the MLB/AAP program with a solid 3.18 era against the best hitters in the country and deserved to make the AAA Team which played a 4 game series in the Gold Coast. Brendan pitched in 2 of the games and conceded only 2 earned runs while striking out 4 in his 4 innings pitched. Wisey has learned a lot from this camp and tournament and we look forward to big jumps in his progression this year.

WA finished third at the Schoolboys Nationals in Canberra and Brendan assisted with 2 good outings on the bump. Both efforts earned him MVP awards. Brendan threw the win against Queensland and was in front of Victoria when he came out in his second outing. Brendan has been going through some mechanical changes so his outings over in Canberra were fantastic considering what was going on in his mind. Brendan and the coaching staff look forward to the MLB/AAP Camp in Queensland where Brendan can improve even more.

May 2003: Congratulations to Brendan on making the Schoolboys team to play in the National Championships in May this year. Brendan joins fellow scholarship holders Adam Hammond and Tim Kennelly on the team.

Under 18 Nationals 2003: Brendan had a tough series along with all the other pitchers at the Nationals. Even though Wisey walked 16 batters in 21 innings pitched, our defence left him out there way too long with routine errors. Brendan did strike out 17 and finished with a respectable 3.00 ERA conceding only 7 earned runs.

Congratulations to Brendan on being this weeks player of the week for the second time this season. The starting pitcher for the Melville Braves State League team, Brendan beat Morley Eagles 10 - 5 for his third win for the season. Winning Pitcher: Wise, 5 innings, 7 strike outs, 2 hits, 6 walks, 2 earned runs. Brendan, only 16 years of age is fast becoming the Braves number "1" starter. His fastball in the mid eighties is complemented by a mid seventies change up and a high sixties to low seventies curveball.

The Team played against a touring American Red and Blue Team plus the Queensland Baseball Academy. Brendan pitched the last game of the series and defeated the Blue Team 7-1. 21.01.02 : Brendan has just come off a very successful series with the Under 16 State Team. Brendan helped the team on the way to a fourth placing at the Nationals. Personally he had an excellent series throwing 2 winning games (6.37 era) and hitting 0.389 for the series. Brendan only had one hiccup on the hill and that was against NSWC when in the third inning the country boys went on a hitting spree collecting 6 runs. Congratulations to Brendan on an outstanding series.

5.1.02 : Brendan started on the hill against South Australia in game 2 of the Under 16 National Championships. In 4 Innings Brendan gave up 4 hits, 0 BB, struck out 6 and didn't concede a run to help WA beat SA 11-1 and keep their unbeaten record of 2-0 in tact.

30.12.01 :Playing for the Under 16 State Team against the Seattle Mariners Goodwill Team, Brendan had a great series both on the hill, on the field and in the batters box. Here he shown making an out at first base and then hitting a solo home run in the last game.

7.11.01 : Brendan has had the opportunity to pitch in both the Braves Under 18 team and their  AAA team. Also Brendan is to be congratulated on making the Under 16 State Team that will play in the National Championships in Perth from the 4th to the 16th of January 2001.

A member of the Melville Braves Baseball Club Brendan was offered a scholarship after being talent identified last year (2000) as a 14 year old. Working with the WAIS athletes as often as he could from the beginning of last years off-season program, Brendan has improved and shown enough to be projected as a potential professional athlete. Brendan has a good size and a very relaxed throwing action with minimal effort. The next couple of years will be important for this young right handed pitcher.
